As part of the Heritage Lottery Funded project, York Minster Revealed the Dean and Chapter intend to conserve the Great East Window. This window dating from 1405-8 and documented as the work of John Thornton of Coventry, is one of the largest, most complex and most important stained glass windows in the world.
As an essential part of this conservation project, the Dean and Chapter require contextualised historical and art historical research to be undertaken to inform the conservation recommendations made by its East Window Advisory Group (EWAG) on each panel of the East Window prior to work being undertaken. The provision of this research information is a condition of CFCE approval for the restoration methodology.
