HMV has appointed Ewan Pinder to a new role as Head of technology – as the music retailer looks to grow the area so it covers as much as 25% of its store space over the coming months.
Pinder’s new team also finds Phil Browes joining as category manager, Rob Mason as senior category buyer, Dean Millward as category buyer and Jonny Austin and Ed Lee as assistant category buyers.
Pinder will also be charged with overseeing the Supply Chain department, which will be headed by Supply Chain manager, Rebecca Hunt.
The appointments follow HMV’s announcement earlier this year that it would expand the technology products it sold in all its 150 stores in the UK and Ireland and follows on from a successful trial at six stores in the first half of 2011. Under the new plans, technology will take up to as much as 25% of the music retailer’s store space.
Speaking about his new appointment, Pinder told Musicweek that HMV’s remit had always been about giving its customers the widest-possible access to music, film and games and added, “Expanding our range of technology products, through which so many of us increasingly consume our entertainment content these days, is actually a very natural fit for us.”
