Well after a politically charged day of yesterday when George Osborne announced the full details of the Comprehensive Spending Review – here are the headlines which everyone wants to see – at a glance in budgetary order

  • NHS Spending was £109.8 billion – means a 1.3% increase due to cumulative real growth
  • Education: Now £53.9 billion – has a 3.4% reduction
  • Scotland: £25.4 billion – minus 6.8% reduction
  • Defence: £24.7 billion – cut by 7.5%
  • Local Government: £22.9 billion – reduced by 27%
  • Business, Innovation & Skills: £13.7 billion – cut by 25%
  • Wales: £13.5 billion – down by 7.5 %
  • Northern Ireland: £9.5 billion – down by 6.9%
  • International Development: £9.4 billion – INCREASED by 37%
  • Home Office: £7.8 billion – decreased by 23%
  • Work & Pensions £7.6 billion INCREASED by 2.3%
  • Justice: £7 billion – down 23%
  • Transport £4.4 billion – reduced by 21%
  • HMRC: £3.2 billion – down by 15%
  • Special reserves & Reserves – STAY THE SAME
  • Environment, Food & Rural Affairs  £1.8 billion – down by 29%
  • Dept. Communities & Local Government: £1.2 billion – down by 51%
  • Foreign & Commonwealth Office: £1.2 billion – down by 24%
  • Culture, Media & Sport: £1.1 billion – reduced by 24%
  • Energy & Climate Change: £1 billion – down by 18%
  • Cabinet Office: £0.4 billion – INCREASED BY 28%
  • HM Treasury: £0.1 billion – reduced by 33%

So this brings us onto the Job Losses – which are estimated to be 490,000 which were forecast by George Osborne, so it will be tough trading times ahead!
