Here’s the update so far, we’ve had 167 enquiries (in just over 3 weeks!!) and we’ve got 81 (at the last count) companies who have formally expressed an interest by sending back their background information form, and signing the rules document.

The consortia works by bringing together smaller firms to effectively ”slice up the pie” with each small business having a slice of what they are good at. So you have an opportunity for bidding for larger contracts without having to actually be able to deliver all of it by yourself, as other members of the consortia will deliver their respective “slices”

 •    Onshore cable installation to begin

Meet the buyer event on 10 May 

E.ON is taking the next step in construction of its £736m Humber Gateway wind farm and will soon begin laying the onshore cable, which will be used to connect the offshore turbines to a new onshore substation at Salt End.

The wind farm which will be located 8km off the East Yorkshire coast, is due to be completed in Spring 2015 and will consist of 73 turbines, generating up to 219MW of electricity – enough energy to power up to 170,000 homes.

The Humber Gateway project will involve the construction of wind turbines, foundation works, building onshore and offshore substations, installing undersea power cables and the 30km onshore cable.  E.ON will be working with the local community to keep them updated and informed throughout the construction process.

The project aims to create up to 1,000 jobs during construction and E.ON, along with representatives from partner organisations National Grid, Siemens, Balfour Beatty Utility Services, Murphy’s and CG Power Solutions, will be hosting a ‘Meet the buyer’ event in Hull to explain the opportunities available to local businesses.  The event is designed for organisations wishing to express an interest in providing services to Humber Gateway and will give attendees an opportunity to meet specialist buyers and network with other businesses who may be interested in forming partnerships to bid for work on the project.

Types of suppliers that may be required include catering, cleaning services, security, building trade and associated services, supplementary site labour, plant and machinery hire, hospitality and accommodation, civil and electrical materials, goods and consumables.

Matthew Swanwick, Humber Gateway Project Manager at E.ON, said:  “We’re extremely pleased to have reached this milestone in the development of Humber Gateway.  Construction is well underway, we will soon begin laying the onshore cable, plus we’re hosting an event to meet local businesses and discuss how they can work with our lead contractors to help develop the project.

“Humber Gateway will be extremely significant in terms of the UK’s production of clean, green renewable energy and I’m looking forward to talking to local businesses about how they can be part of the project.”

The purpose of this “Meet the Buyer” events is to introduce CKMA manufacturers to larger CKMA member
companies in order that they may subsequently sell their products to them. As a result of the last such event in
December, one supplier succeeded in taking an order which should lead to annual sales of over £60,000.
We aim to have 10 companies seeking additional local suppliers at the event. Those who have confirmed so far are:

David Brown Gears, Borg Warner, Halifax Fan, Disposables UK Group, Leo Group and Heights (UK) Ltd.

The format of the event is a form of “speed dating” to match buyer and supplier with a view to future business, there
will also be opportunities to hold discussions with other suppliers without appointments.

 The number of potential suppliers will be limited so that everyone has a fair chance to meet the buyers so register now as a potential
supplier by emailing here with the following details:
1. Your company name, who you wish to attend (up to 2 people), email address and web address.
2. Your main line of business products, services and production capacity.
3. The type of product you can manufacture or type of work you can undertake.

Wales Meet the Buyer Event

Auditor General to host ‘Meet the Buyer’ event to set out his forthcoming contracting requirements

The Auditor General is hosting a ‘Meet the Buyer’ event next month for anyone interested in finding out more about potential business opportunities from his 2014 contracting arrangements.

Six firms currently have contracts with him to provide 30% of public sector audit work in Wales. And firms deliver all 740 of the audits of the town and community councils. Collectively, the firms’ work is worth over £3 million a year.

From 2014, the Auditor General intends to buy audit services from a much wider range of suppliers. These services include support for performance audit across the Welsh public sector, including value for money reviews and national studies as well as the audit of annual accounts and grant claims.

We want to engage subject specialists in particular areas such as health and social care, transport, education, housing and regeneration. And we’d also like to find suppliers to help us with more generic work such as data analysis and surveys of people’s experience of public services.

The ‘Meet the Buyer’ event will set out what the likely contract requirements will be and will be of interest to accountancy firms, consultancies, agencies, academic institution and individual specialists.
